This is a Hasegawa 1/72 Scale assembly and painting required plastic model kit of the North American F-86D Sabre, a transonic jet all-weather interceptor based on North American's F-86 Sabre day fighter that is sometimes called called the "Sabre Dog" or "Dog Sabre". Model kit features: engraved panel lines, basic cockpit, partial intake trunk, boxed-in wheel wells, resin wheels, drop tanks, optional position canopy. Decals for (2) shark mouth emblazoned USAF aircraft: s/n 53-866 'King's Queen' of the 498th FIS in 1956 and s/n 53-997 'Big Viv' of the 498th FIS in 1956 - includes instrument panel and console markings plus stencil data. Skill Level 3. 69 parts. Age 14+. The venerable F-86 achieved its greatest fame during the Korean War, where pilots of the U.S. Air Force flying Sabrejets racked up an astounding 10 to 1 kill ratio against enemy MiGs. The F-86D had only 25 percent commonality with other Sabre variants, with a larger fuselage, larger afterburning engine, and a distinctive nose radome. Although the type was developed based on the venerable F-86 Sabre, it is virtually a new aircraft despite its similarities in appearance. Over 2,800 F-86D of all variants were produced for the United States Air Force and air forces of U.S. allies.
